The Ragdoll breed was developed by Ann Baker in Riverside, CA. It originated in 1964 with Ann deciding to breed a white Persian-like cat named Josephine. She then began selectively breeding various cats along with Josephine, until she had developed the Ragdollβs unique traits which included its large size, striking blue eyes, and gentle temperament, sometime in 1965.
Annβs vision was clear. She wanted cats that were not only beautiful but also had a wonderful temperament. This marked the beginning of the Ragdoll breed. Annβs dedication and careful breeding led to the Ragdolls we know and love today.
Ragdolls are usually quite sociable and get along well with other pets, including dogs and other cats. Their friendly nature makes them excellent choices for households with small children and large families with lots of activity.
As the saying goes: 'A Ragdoll knows no strangers' This being said, this is why they need to be indoors only, to keep them safe.
Compared to other cats, Ragdolls tend to be more quite fearless when it comes to getting along with just about anyone who they may be introduced to-earning them the well-deserved title of 'most agreeable and low-key' cat breed.
